DIY Refurbishing the CD V-700 Geiger Counter

The DIY Refurbishment  Project with be organized around a supplied and working  CD-V700 Geiger Counter and upgrade.parts kit and step-by-step instruction manual

Before being supplied, it will be tested for proper operation, the probe assembly will be replaced with a BNC connector mounted in place of the existing cable and the probe assembly will have a male BNC connector attached to the cable.  The unit will be tested for proper operation.  After the top plate has been drilled and tapped for the female connector, the top plate will be sanded re-lettered and painted the gorgeous yellow safety color that it should be.  It will look like new.  The BNC connector will provide a means for you to to remove the supplied probe and try new detectors, build your own probes and test them.

When this page is finished, the completed CD V-700 will be pictured along with the parts that you will need to replace.  It will also list the tools and instruments needed to complete the task.  You will only need to supply the few tools required like screwdriver, needle nose pliers, soldering iron, solder, etc.

The skill level required is only a step above a beginner.  You will need to have some experience using the tools listed, and of course, be able to follow directions.

The DIY project will be coming soon.    I am boiling over with excitement and can hardy wait. It will be lots of fun for everyone interested in getting started in the exciting field of nuclear instrumentation and exploration whether you are an electronics buff or a rock hound.
